Rachel’s Contrition by: Michelle Buckman

SYNOPSIS:
Rachel Winters had nothing, won it all, and then lost everything. After her daughter’s sudden death, demons from Rachel’s past cause her to lose her husband, her son, and even a place to live.

When Rachel drifts ever close to insanity—and perhaps oblivion—help arrives from two unlikely sources: a tattered Holy Card depicting Therese of Lisieux and Lilly, a trouble teenager battling demons greater even than Rachel’s.

As Rachel grows closer to Lilly and Therese, unbidden memories reveal fearful mysteries of seduction, madness, and murder. And a truth that will haunt Rachel forever … but enable her finally to be healed.

I’m always searching for great Catholic fiction because they are often rare and difficult to find but this one really took me by surprise. It’s a story about life, death, love and forgiveness. The story is gripping and I could hardly put the book down. I’m pretty sure I finished it in one sitting. It was that good! It’s one of those books that can tug at your heartstrings and make you really feel for the characters. It also has a wonderful way of surprising the reader which I loved. I haven’t really read a good novel in a while since Arms of Love and Surrender. This is a whole different story though, I think mothers will really enjoy it and they’ll be able to understand Rachel and her motivations. I can’t tell people enough how much I love this book. Lets support good Catholic authors and publishers!
